Tips on Choosing the Right Domain Name
This article has the purpose of guiding you to choose a suitable domain name for your website. Whether you are looking for a domain name for your business or personal website, finding the right one can be difficult sometimes. If your business has an unique name, then you should not have a problem. But, if your business name is something more common like “Apple,” then for sure you will have to choose a name other than “apple.com.” When thinking of a domain name, here are a few things to consider:
1. It should be simple and easy to remember – It makes it easier for customers to memorize it and it is better for marketing.
2. Keywords should be separated by dashes – however, it is recommended not to have more than one dash. For example: Go for this “www.sample-website.com” instead of this: “www.my-sample-website.com.”
3. If possible, include keywords in your domain name - Google takes account the domain name of a website for its ranking position. Therefore, having a keyword in the domain name of your website will help it rank higher. This does not guarantee that your website will rank higher than others, as there are other factors to be considered. Examples: “www.yournameclothing.com”, “www.yournameinsurance.com” etc.
If your name is not unique, you may have a harder time finding a domain that has not been registered by anyone yet. In this case, you may want to try: switching the keywords order, separating them by dash, adding new words, testing for plural forms of the words. For example: “www.designincontrast.com “and “www.contrastdesign.com”; ”contrastdesigns.com” etc.
If you find yourself in a situation that you can’t find the right one, don’t give up. Just keep thinking carefully, soon or later it will come to you. Looking for a keyword in the dictionary is also a very good idea.
Good luck on your domain name hunt. I hope this helps!
